We should have our campout dates by April 10th.

Hickory Run Big Book Campout - 2026 Big Change

 

Camp Daddy Allen will not be available for us to rent this year.

There is a big restoration project taking place at the park and they are using Camp Daddy Allen as their home base.

 

What this means for us:

1. January 2026: Sarah B. will receive an application to request a campsite at Hickory Run State Park, as usual. 
2. She will submit our request for Camp Shehaqua which is up the road from Camp Daddy Allen. (See attached map of Camp Shehaqua, similar but not the same.)
3. The Park suggested we put the dates we want (July 15th - 19th 2026) on the application along with a 2nd choice. This means of course, we may not get our regular week(end).
4. Won't know the date of our campout until late March or early April.
5. While we believe it unlikely, there is a chance we will not get into Camp Shehaqua. We were told youth groups will be scheduled first. Therefore, we are investigating other possible locations.
6. As we will not know the date of our campout until late March or early April our camper registration release will be delayed. We're hoping to have it available April 10, 2026.

 

This can be looked at as an exciting opportunity!  Camp Shehaqua holds 25 more people than Camp Daddy Allen. Previously, we had bounced the idea of trying Camp Shehaqua for that reason but never pulled the trigger. Maybe we needed the nudge :).
